In Ghana, the need is acute. The country faces a deficit of around 250,000 new homes every year, and the gap keeps growing. Traditional construction takes 12-24 months per unit with unpredictable costs, so supply lags far behind demand. At the same time, an unstable grid makes daily life difficult: families spend 40-60% of their income on diesel generators just to keep the lights on through frequent outages.
This is not a Ghana-only problem. More than 1 billion people globally lack adequate housing, and 600 million in Sub-Saharan Africa live without reliable electricity. Demand will only grow: the region's cities are projected to double in population by 2050. At the same time, West Africa receives 5.5 kWh/m²/day of solar irradiance, among the world's highest, perfect conditions for solar-powered homes.
